Cholesterol Not Bad For You?

The U.S. Government has officially caught up with what nutrition experts have known for many years, cholesterol in foods is not the culprit for increased risk of heart disease, saturated fats are. The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, the group that provides the scientific basis for the “Dietary Guidelines” throughout the country, recently reversed its 40-year position on cholesterol, declaring that cholesterol no longer needs to be considered a “nutrient of concern” in the American diet. Their finding follows an evolution of thinking among many nutrition experts who believe, the issue of heart disease lies not in products such as eggs, shrimp or lobster, which are high in cholesterol, but in too many servings of foods heavy with saturated fats, such as fatty meats, whole milk, and butter.
